4-H Family Guidelines
4-H is a family affair. Your children will be offered opportunities for growth in responsibility, peer interaction, and special-interest area knowledge. The benefits of belonging to 4-H is numerous. In order to assure a positive experience, Jay Road 4-H Club has set the following minimum requirements for annual 4-H achievement:
1. 60% attendance at monthly club meetings (6 out of 11 meetings). Meetings are held at the American Legion Hall in Belgium, on the first Monday of each month. In the event of special circumstances, excused absence will be considered by the leadership team, if prior notification is given to a club officer or organizational leader prior to the meeting. In order to receive perfect attendance, you must attend all 11 meetings held; excused absences do not count towards perfect attendance.
2. New members under the age of 10 must take the Exploring project their first year. All older members are encouraged to limit themselves to no more than two projects their first year (The club leadership team must approve any exceptions or additional projects).
3. For each project taken, the 4-H member must meet the requirements of that particular project including attendance, meeting participation, and/or special activities. Each member MUST exhibit an entry in each project taken at the Ozaukee County Fair (Special consideration may be requested if a member is unable to exhibit at the County Fair, provided the leadership team is notified in a timely manner, prior to fair).
4. Each 4-H member is expected to participate in one club fundraiser and two community service projects annually.
5. Each 4-H member is expected to serve one time at a minimum, refreshments for the monthly club meeting (Each family to provide 2-3 liter bottles of a beverage and 18-24 servings of a snack and is responsible for cleanup at that meeting).
6. County Fair registration is always due: JULY 1st of each year, there are no exceptions to this deadline date.
7. Members receive project literature and 4-H record book materials from the UW- Extension Office at the beginning of the 4-H year. A completed record book must be turned in by the specified deadline at the end of the year (August). Project completion/achievement records MUST be signed by each project leader.
It is our hope that this Family Guideline will improve communication between the club members, parents, and leaders in Jay Road 4-H club. Questions or comments should be addressed with the Leadership Team.
